SSG Time

Rule Of Thirds

Alright so every four months there’s an update. To make that gap smaller, I’ve set myself up with a static site generator and automation.

Hugo

This is a compact static site generator. There is no database magic happening behind the scenes - I’m writing shit in Markdown, saving it, compiling a /public folder, and then uploading that to my host. It’s a trip and I’m still not used to how stupid-easy it is. The only hangup is that I haven’t had a chance to comb through all the styling and make it align with exactly what I had before. Oh well. GitHub

Finally set myself up after having a number of false starts throughout the years. Apparently I already had an account, but it was empty and used my old social media handle, so no go there. Anyhoo, whenever I write something, it’s also dumped in a repository, meaning backups are covered. Should I REALLY need to make fresh content on the go, I can use GitHub as a frontend to get that done. Probably won’t happen.

Next

One day I’ll set up a SSH key so I don’t have to copy my password every time I want to push something. I’d also like to do some webhook magic to even further cut down on the number of commands I need to type in my terminal window. But for now I’m happy to keep the level of complexity right where it is. There will be photos eventually, so I’ll need to style a page specifically for that… unless I’m doing a killer job of editing all the stuff I’d like to share.

And that’s pretty much it. I’m planning for the new year and hoping for interesting things to come to fruition, so maybe there’ll be actual reasons to post here. ☯
