Printing Plastic

Grey Prusa MK3 Benchy + Orange Ender3 Benchy

Three Whole Dimensions!

So I went and purchased not one, but two 3D printers over the course of a month and a half. Whoops! Interest was initially around printing an enclosure for my Axoloti, but then turned towards a bunch of other handheld gaming cases, doodads, geegaws, and tchotchkes. So many low-poly animals for Easter!

Anyhoo, the Ender3 was fun to assemble, but felt kinda Mickey Mouse. Print quality was shaky out of the box, but became downright acceptable after retuning all the belts and picking up a glass print bed. The Prusa MK3S was trickier to get together, but taught me WAY more about how these machines work (education is tight). Print quality was bananas right from the jump.

Aside from two stray clogged nozzles, I haven’t needed to use any of the knowledge earned while putting either machine together, which is a testament to their build quality given I’ve been printing MPCNC parts for days now.

NO clue what the hell I’m gonna do with that, but the idea of machines making machines is a trip I’m down to take, regardless of the end product.

Plaid Keyboard Top + Bottom Plates

Clackers

While I was doing that one flavor of nerdshit, I was simultaneously sourcing parts for a new keyboard build. A trip to Mouser, a few hours hunting and pecking, and I had all the parts (minus hardware) to build a Plaid!

Except I needed to have circuit boards made, which I’ve never done before. Thankfully, the Internet is still mostly chaotic good, and I was able to find a handful of tutorials that got me rolling with JLCPCB. Minimum order meant that I had to go in on 5 boards, so I’m going to have a few to spare.

Fun learning experience messing with KiCad (again, education is tight), and I’ll for sure be picking some more keebs off the Awesome Mechanical Keyboards list when I get bored of what I’ve got now.

Next Up

I almost bought equipment to build and fly drones, but that seems super pointless given my current living situation. Next digital exercise is most likely tidying up my professional portfolio, IE removing all case studies from it and making a cryptic landing page so I don’t look hella antiquated.

I DID order a handful of legit tie-dying supplies, so one of these upcoming weekends is going to be super groovy. Once that’s done I’ll feel less bad about writing that thing back in September.

Hey, looks like we’re in full LiveJournal replacement mode now. How about that. ☯
