Small Update

Affogato

A Return To Git

Almost a full year without anything happening, cool. Anyway, I wanted to make it dumb-easy to update this thing from wherever, which was a goal in its earlier iterations but scrapped in service of just getting into using it. I finally figured out the whole ‘Git repo somewhere other than Github’ thing, and was able to install Git via Termux on my trusty Pixel 1. So now I can just write some stuff, push it to my repo, pull it from another device if I want, and pick up wherever I left off. No need to be constantly syncing files across devices, sweet.

RSS’d

In addition to Git, I’d wanted to get my RSS set up to be full content of a post, rather than just its summary. Turns out this was as simple as changing a line in the default rss.xml file, and now that that’s done, anything I post can be read entirely in whatever feed reader. It looks swell in MiniFlux, for instance. Victory!

Voron Party

Always on the hunt for projects, I decided to build not one, but TWO frickin' 3D printers. I’ve already got an Ender3 and a Prusa Mk3, but nothing CoreXY, and nothing I’ve put together from scratch, entirely by myself. So that’s what the Voron projects are for. I’ve been sourcing parts for both 0.1 and 2.4 builds since… March? It’s taken so long because I’ve been attempting to stay reasonable with monthly spend on this stuff, but also because there’s lots of stuff to hunt down, lots of different places to order from, lots of things to screw up and need to re-order. I figure as long as everything is here by time the Thanksgiving/Christmas season rolls around, I’ll be able to assemble everything while I’m on break.

Espresso!

Maybe the bougiest purchase I’ve made thus far during COVID season could be a Gaggia Classic Pro. I’ve had it for all of 3 months, and pulling a good shot still feels like an exercise in dice rolling. I’ve of course sourced the electronics for a DIY PID install to monitor temperature at both the boiler and steamer for consistency’s sake, but have yet to install those. A pro-tip for pulling a tasty drink would be just throwing a scoop of good vanilla ice cream in the bottom of your cup, a la the post’s image up there. Can’t mess up an affogato!

WFH Game Strong

I wound up working on a project about content creators, and was inspired to step up my workspace. Nice articulating monitor arm, a new mic, some lights, a stand for said mic lights, and then the thing I’ve gotten the most comments/teasing about, an old Sony A5000 with cheap eBay glass run through a no-name capture card into OBS used as a webcam. Whether it winds up being more distracting than helpful remains to be seen, but it really does help mitigate the less-than-great light situation in my apartment. The Logitech C920 was probably just fine, but it just couldn’t handle the direct light from the giant south-facing window immediately to my right. The new setup kills it with dynamic range and lets me do that bokeh thing with my background, so it’s a win/win.

Next!

Sure, a new update, big deal. I think I want to figure out some sort of workflow for making inclusion of images a little easier. OH! And maybe video too, since on top of my A5000 setup I also grabbed a DJI Osmo Pocket that’s been taking EXCELLENT nature videos. Maybe the next one’ll be about that… ☯
